Special Education Teacher

Requirements and major job duties. Full Time position working in Benhaven’s IBenhaven School, an approved private special education facility located in Wallingford. A CT special education certification is required.

Salary and benefits: Salary range is $40,000 - $70,000 depending on experience and education level.

Benhaven School, an approved private special education facility located in Wallingford CT, is looking for a Connecticut certified special education teacher to join its staff. Benhaven School provides educational services and supports to students with autism and other pervasive developmental disabilities in the areas of social/behavioral development, functional academics, activities of daily living, communication and vocational programming both in school and community/natural settings. Our high-need students range from ages 8 to 21.

We are looking for a highly skilled, enthusiastic individual who is, innovative, hardworking and enjoys being part of a team.

Benhaven is a 12 month school program; teachers work 40 hours a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop IEP (including transition planning and multi- element behavior support plans) in collaboration with team members for 5-7 students
  • Overseeing training and implementation of student programs with paraprofessional staff.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with families, specialists, residential and medical staff regarding students progress
  • Organize and coordinate classroom and students schedules

Qualifications:

  • CT special education certification
  • Strong leadership and classroom management skills
  • Commitment to positive programming for students with challenging behavior
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Commitment to continued development of skills and expertise teaching students with autism
  • Ability to effectively express thoughts both orally and in writing
  • Ability to transport students in a personal vehicle that is insured, registered, and in good working order
