A Statement of Benhaven's Mission

Benhaven’s mission is to enable people with autism and pervasive developmental disorders to participate in community life, exercise productive control over their own lives, have meaningful relationships and associations, be gainfully employed, and experience happiness and personal satisfaction.

Some Basic Goals and Values That Guide Benhaven's Work With People With Autism

• People, even those with severe disabilities, should have the support they need to be successful as they live, go to school, and work in their own communities.
• Participation in community life and the development of community living skills should be fostered. People should not just be in the community; they should also participate in it.
• People should be treated with respect and courtesy. We must be sure that people are free from abuse, neglect, and careless treatment.
